The Ladies Reading Club was established in May 2006 by the Malawi National Library. There are 14 women in the club. The club was established for the following reasons:
To encourage women to have a positive attitude towards reading
To establsh an awareness of how Malawi is progressing through newspapers and books
So that their children may develop a habit of reading following their mothers as role models
To help women know their rights and their children's rights
To assist women who have had little education to further their education
Latest Project: The MSP is currently working alongside The Microloan Foundation who, in 2010, will train the women in business skills and help them to establish their own businesses.
In February 2010, the Malawi National Library Services launched a mother-child reading club at the Mbabzi School library, where mothers are encouraged to bring their young children to the library once a week, to help promote learning and reading at a young age.
